Jayme is a 36 year old RN, wife, and mother of two amazing kids (11 and 7). In early 2017, she began having right upper extremity weakness that was believed to be carpal tunnel. After seeing two specialist and having tests done, she had two orthopedic surgeries done In 2018 and 2019. As the weakness continued to progress, she was referred to a neurologist in New Orleans. She had extensive testing, scans, and biopsies, including taking an 8 day trip to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Five years after her symptoms began, she was officially diagnosed with ALS in February 2022. ALS is a neuromuscular disorder that causes muscle weakness and wasting that unfortunately doesn’t have a cure as of now, and ultimately is a terminal disease. Weakness typically begins in your extremities and progresses throughout the body as time goes on. Jayme had been blessed to be able to continue to work as a clinical educator as her disease progressed, but unfortunately, she had to stop working and driving at the end of last year. She now requires the help of a walker or power wheelchair to get around, as well as assistance with day to day tasks. She still lives life one day at a time and is living it to the fullest spending time with loved ones
